National Portfolio Day
On Saturday, November 15, arts instructor Lindsay Jessee brought a group of students to Pratt Institute School of Art and Design in New York City to attend National Portfolio Day. A lot of art colleges were there and students learned more about art schools. Moreover, students got to get criticism about their work from all different kinds of people. It was a fun and educational experiment.

CIA (calligraphy is awesome)!
On Friday, November 13, the first calligraphy class was held in the upstairs of Slocum by Angel ‘11 and Peggie ‘12. Students and faculty learned some basics and also got their Chinese name in the first class. It was really great to see many Emma girls and teachers show interested in learning calligraphy and Chinese culture. We are looking forward for everyone in the group to be skilled in doing Chinese traditional writing. Keep on going, calligrphy group!

Hot chocolate warmed students’ hearts
There was a party held by houseparents in 2E café on Saturday. They provided cupcakes, cookies, soda, tea, juice, and hot chocolate. Students got a chance to slow down their busy lives. Some sat down and talked with their friends while having sweet cupcakes, some watched movies and had a fun time. It was great for students to get a short break from school work to relax. The hot chocolate warmed students’ hearts. All the students appreciated their houseparents for devoting time on cheering up students.

BOMBERS Burrito Bar
Houseparent Nicole Hapeman and her advisees went to Bombers for dinner on Wednesday. They could not wait for this exciting event because they had planned this trip since the beginning of the year. They had big burritos, tacos, tofu fries, fries, and soda. Eating nice food and talking happily released their stress of the day. It was a great bonding trip for the advisor and her advisees. On their way back to school, they even planned to have a Thanksgiving food party in Nicole’s apartment next week!

Peer-Ed Retreat
Over this past weekend, the Peer Educator group of the ’09-’10 academic year took their annual retreat to a group member’s beautiful home just a half an hour away from Mt. Ida. The Peer Ed group, whose mission is to ensure a safe, comfortable, and well-educated community, completed many team building activities, as well as leadership workshops. As well as learning a lot about other group members and the Peer Ed position, the group had lots of fun and it is certain that many fond memories were created.
