English and history workshop

This evening, students who take English III, U.S. History, AP U.S. History, and Nasty Wenches to N.O.W.: Historical Perspectives of Women in the United States attended a workshop that addressed the interdisciplinary use of Early American capativity narratives in the classroom. Texts discussed included Mary Rowlandson’s A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson, J.E. Seaver’s Narrative of the Life of Mrs. Mary Jemison, and American Indian Stories by Zitkala-Sa.

Tomorrow, a day-long version of this workshop is offered to English, social studies, and history teachers from the Capital Region with guest speakers Dr. Lorrayne Carrol, associate professor of English and gender students at the University of Souther Maine, and Dr. Andrea Foroughi, associate professof or history at Union College.
