Winter Sports Dessert a Success!

Last Wednesday, March 21, the basketball and indoor track teams gathered to enjoy some yummy desserts and celebrate the seasons accomplishments. JV basketball had a successful season and improved over the course of every game while many of their players learned to compete at the high school level for the first time. Varsity basketball also boasted an impressive season, finishing with multiple players selected to either the all-star team or as scholar athletes and making it into sectional competition. Indoor track, in its second season ever, won the sectional championship and sent athletes to both the state and national meet.  Overall, everyone enjoyed remembering the fond times they had with their teammates this past season and the accomplishments they all worked so hard for together. Now, everyone is ready to begin their spring sports and get started on another successful season!

Check out a video created by our own EmmaNow student blogger Samantha Tetrault showing a glimpse of the indoor track season!

Indoor Track Victory at Sectionals

Division Champions!

On February 20th, thirteen Indoor Track athletes representing Emma Willard competed in various running, jumping, and throwing events at Sectionals. The team won their first Indoor Track title, an impressive feat for a program in only its second year. Competing against 12 other schools in Division 3, the team won first place, beating the runner up by 16 points. The team dominated the scoreboard with Emma girls as first place finishers in many events. At the meet, Keishorea Armstrong took 1st place in the 55 meter dash and high jump, Molly Shapiro took 1st place in long jump and triple jump, Acacia Larson was 1st place in shot put and the weight throw (2012 exhibition event), and Bridget O’Malley with 1st place in the 1500 meter race walk (non-scoring event).  All the athletes did a fantastic job and many broke their personal records for the events they compete in.

Congratulations Indoor Track!

Final Home Basketball Game of the Season

The stands were crowded with fans as the game commenced the night of February 6th. For it was a big night for the Emma Willard Varsity Basketball team. Not only did they demolish New Lebanon, but this was also the last home game for the seniors. The seniors include: Hattie Cowels, Amber Spencer, Lindsay Pattison, Karen Kao and Wanda Noonan. On this night, juniors Sammie Oluyede, Abby McOsker, Sam Kreda, Kelsie Sausville and Natalie Kiley-Bergen, offered heartfelt words to the seniors; expressing their love and appreciation for them. They also handed each senior, flowers and a balloon. Each senior finished strong with, Hattie scoring 6 points, Amber scoring 6 points, Wanda scoring 4 points, Karen scoring 2 points and Lindsay having 3 steals, 1 block and 1 assist. The final score turned out to be an amazing 47-10. Greatness is expected from these seniors as the graduate later on in the year. They have grown on this team tremendously and will be missed, for they have truly left their mark on the Emma Willard Varsity Basketball team.
