379231_408426425916169_1717701510_nThis past week marked the beginning of the spring sports season!
Open gym was held for Lacrosse, Crew, Softball, and Track for athletes of all experience levels. This allows for students who are unsure of what sport they would like to compete in this year to try each sport.  Returning athletes also got a chance to practice and refine their skills before tryouts.  Tryouts for spring sports start this week, on Monday, March 4th. Good luck to all spring athletes!

Always Running, Even Through a Downpour

As Emma Cross Country nears the end of their season, runners took part in the annual Greenwhich Invitational at Saratoga Spa Park this past Friday, October 19! The full 5K course is tough in itself, but this particularly Friday it was pouring rain, making the trail muddy and puddle-laden, not to mention it was chilly out! There’s no stopping these girls though, and they all ran admirably through the storm. Sierra Sukay ’16, came in second in the freshman race, with her two freshman teammates not far behind her. All three of them metaled. In the varsity race seven medals were earned. It was a great meet!

Swim Team Win

On October 12th, last Friday during Parent’s Weekend, our Emma Willard Swim Team won by a remarkable lead against Schenectady!
With Cara Lanci ’14, Jackie Lung ’14, Josephine Lung ’16, and Sam Sandwick ’16 breaking the 200 free relay school record!!
Congrats to our exceptional swimmers and divers for another great win and show of team spirit!
Remember to come and watch our last home meet of the year against Hudson Falls Central School on Friday, October 26th!

Volleyball Off to a Great Season!

New Head Coach Kaitlyn Cooper and Assistant Coach Katie Landers talks to the team during a time out against Hawthorne Valley.

This week, the Emma Wilard Varsity Volleyball team played two matches against Hawthorne Valley and Germantown and scored a win and a loss respectively for the Jesters. Hawthorne Valley was a 3-0 sweep (25-15, 25-20, 25-16) while they fought hard against Germantown until the very last point, they fell a little short of securing the win with a 3-1 match. Currently, they have a 3-4 win-loss record. This weekend they will play in the Greenville Tournament. Their next home game is October 3rd against Loudonville Christian. Come and cheer them on!

Winter Sports Dessert a Success!

Last Wednesday, March 21, the basketball and indoor track teams gathered to enjoy some yummy desserts and celebrate the seasons accomplishments. JV basketball had a successful season and improved over the course of every game while many of their players learned to compete at the high school level for the first time. Varsity basketball also boasted an impressive season, finishing with multiple players selected to either the all-star team or as scholar athletes and making it into sectional competition. Indoor track, in its second season ever, won the sectional championship and sent athletes to both the state and national meet.  Overall, everyone enjoyed remembering the fond times they had with their teammates this past season and the accomplishments they all worked so hard for together. Now, everyone is ready to begin their spring sports and get started on another successful season!

Check out a video created by our own EmmaNow student blogger Samantha Tetrault showing a glimpse of the indoor track season!
