Thanksgiving Day!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Emma students had a chance to experience the Thanksgiving joy when they ate a big feast with their advisors and advisees. They had a marvelous time sharing stories, and seeing each other one last time before they left for break. The menu included pumpkin cake, and of course, turkey. Now, students are off to Thanksgiving break to share their meal with their own families.

Molly Shapiro ’12 leaps to top in triple jump

For Emma Willard junior Molly Shapiro, the end result typically finds her far into the landing pit and a position at or near the top of the triple jump leader board.

Heading into the outdoor track season, Shapiro has established herself as not only the top triple jumper in Section II, but as one of the best the state has to offer.

Today’s Women at Emma

WNYT NewsChannel 13 education reporter Elaine Houston visited campus last week after hearing about Emma Willard’s success in becoming the first Fair Trade high school in the U.S. Read her story here and watch a video of the segment from last night’s Today’s Women broadcast.

Good golly, Miss Molly!

Emma Willard tennis team captain Molly Goodman and incoming freshman Claire Schmitz partnered up as a doubles team and earned a spot on the Adirondack team, competing at the Empire State Games in Buffalo, NY, last week. Molly and Claire only dropped one match and helped their team clinch a bronze medal. And incoming freshman Olivia Gundrum was goalie for the Adirondack lacrosse team. With her 11 saves, she helped the team win bronze with a final score of 11-6 against the Central team.

Competition winner announced

In 2010, Emma Willard School celebrates two anniversaries: the 100th anniversary of the school’s Mount Ida campus, as well as the 40th anniversary of the chapel’s recently restored Noack mechanical-action pipe organ. To commemorate these important milestones, last fall the school held a composition competition. The winner of the competition is Paul Ayres from the UK.  The piece “Come Let Us Sing Together” will be performed at Honors Convocation on April 28 and at Baccalaureate on May 29.

Raspberry fields forever

2009-09-30_raspberriesOn Saturday, a group of boarders from Kellas 2T traveled to Salem, NY, for a fun day of raspberry picking and rural roads. After picking 16-plus cups of raspberries, the group returned to the dorms, only after stopping at the Ice Cream Mann.  Later that evening, a jam fest took place and some homemade raspberry jam was made and enjoyed alongside toast and wonderful conversation. Quiet On the Heights…

P1010113

For the July 4 holiday, the staff at Emma Willard were given the day off on the 3rd, making the campus even more quiet than it already is in its current summer state.  However, not everyone is missing… Some of the greatest people you will ever meet are still on campus. Who are they, and why are they on campus if no one else has to be? The answer is that they are members of the Emma Willard Security Team (seen above). Always attentive and extremely kind, the EWS security guards are there to watch over the Emma Willard community 24/7/365. So whether you have a problem when it’s 15 below zero, or you’re looking for someone to let you into your office the day before a national holiday because you felt compelled to put in a few extra hours, Security is always there for you, and always there to help.
Thanks guys!
